Q: So what does it do?
A: Safe Text is a free tool that will convert any text into an image. All you do is enter the text, hit Go and an image will be created containing your text. The filename is encoded and pretty damn impossible to decode back to your text. Q: Do I have to specify the exact background color?
A: No. The PNG image that is created has a transparent background. But not all browsers (like Internet Explorer) support transparent PNG. Also, for the browsers who do support it, Safe Text uses anti-aliasing for the font so it looks nicer, this requires you to specify some sort of background color. If it somewhat matches the color of the surface you are going to use it on, it will work just fine. Q: Do you store my text anywhere? Do you share my text with anyone?
A: No. Safe Text will create an text image and that's it. No other actions are taken. Your text is not stored in a database or anything like that. Safe Text is a service that prevents spam. For more (detailed) information on how we handle information, please refer to our Privacy Policy. Q: The form goes weird on me, what can I do about that?
A: The form uses Javascript for special functions, such as custom color and the color preview. Make sure you have Javascript enabled. Q: The example doesn't resize when I select a different font height. Why is that?
A: That's perfectly normal. I choose not to let the example resize because it wouldn't always fit in the spot where it is right now. If the font height would be any bigger the lay-out of the form would stretch up. Q: For how long are the text images stored on the site?
A: I try to keep them on for all eternity. You could of course host the text image yourself, that way you always have it when you need it. But you don't have to. Q: What does that 988af8079c0f58ac172f37b72e3b2f6d like code mean?
A: That is an MD5 hash. MD5 is a powerful encoding algorithm that I use to encode the filename for your text image. MD5 does not have a decoding (reversal) algorithm which makes it very secure. Q: What are your compatibility specifications?
A: Safe Text has been tested in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5+ and Mozilla Firefox 1.0+. Due to the use of W3C XHTML 1.0 Strict coding, Safe Text should also work correctly in Netscape Navigator 6+, Mozilla 1.0+, Opera Browser 5+ and Safari. Q: Why did you create this script?
A: Safe Text was created as a result of it's sister service Safe Mail which coverts email addresses exclusivly. People have been asking for a service that could convert ANY text and here you have it. Safe Text converts ANY text to an image. Q: What did you use to create this tool?
A: I used PHP for the server side programming, this includes just about everything. The text images are generated with GD Graphics Library. All of the programming was done with Macromedia's Dreamweaver. The website output is in XHTML 1.0 Strict, with CSS 2 for the styling. Question unanswered?
